The Rock & Roll Round Up 2003™

was

FANTASTIC!

Night 1- August 15th, 2003 a.k.a. Rock Hard Fridays!

opened.  They are an Out of Town Band that was notified at the last minute they had been accepted so they didn't really have a fair amount of time to advertising yet they brought in some Fans and did a most outstanding job on the Stage.

was next and literally blew them away with their Saxaphone based Rock Band.  Ironically I had just suggested that someone follow Geoff Tate's example and learn how to play Sax pursuant to including its tremendous sounds in a show.  LEADFACE was already ahead of me and managed to have many come a runnin' just to hear and see that man put his lips to that well endowed instrument and give it a great blowing.

Then came hotboxed.  Portland Musicians really knows how to pick 'em, it was just hard to differentiate between a Better and Worse Band as they were all equally good.  As overall professionals hotboxed should Incorporate they are so together.

I'm going to get back to them for a reason.

Then There Was Night 2-August 16th, 2003 a.k.a. Metal Mania Saturdays!

We opened the show with

Did not disappoint.  Although they were fresh off of a show the week before at The New Paris Theater and had little opportunity to spread the word they had their share of Fans there.  Sometimes it sucks being the Executive Producer.  I would need to find my Producer, Tim of Portland Musicians.com, and would find him banging his head at the front of the stage.  He definitely could be found loving every second of The Fellow Betrayed along with everyone else in the house.  I just don't get the time I want to enjoy my own shows.

was next.  That's what I'm talking about, pure theatrics, an incredible show.  Like with the vast majority of the rest of the Bands I truly enjoyed spending time with them as people and regret I had little to no time to watch.  I was able to get about two minutes to check them out and was totally impressed as they put on a SHOW!

Jagermeister really knows how to choose them well.  Jagermeister's Band DEBRIS followed by Jagermeister's NORTHWEST ROYALE was just another astonishing call by Tim of Portland Musicians.com.  The guys are outstanding professionals, a wicked show, Merchandising Animals who do Jagermeister as well as their Fans PROUD!

AtYPICAL tHEME  closed the night with a number so sweet everyone who had a partner seemed to be slow dancing to it.  You could see true love on that floor and I was royally impressed with the way they were able to capture the audience.  I also enjoyed seeing some of the Band Members parents show their support for them.  Jose, you have done very well.

Then came the Last Night - August 17th, 2003 a.k.a. Sub-Dude Sundays!

of  opened the show with a Q&A to the Bands.  In the end it was obvious that many of the Bands as well as individual members had no idea the AF of M even existed much less that it has approximately 100,000 members which include the likes of Korn and QUEENSRYCHE.  Yes, there is an alternative to "Pay to Play", its called "Paid to Play"!  Watch Portland Musicians.com in particular for upcoming meetings with the AF of M Local 99.

was the 1st Band up.  They were OUTSTANDING.  ICM Owner, SLAVA, loved them as did everyone else.  They were on stage and couldn't see us banging our heads to their tunes in the Lobby, at the Door and what not, but we were all listening.  Because it was a bit slower than the other nights I was able to peak in and was mesmerized by an entrancing Guitar Solo.  I saw many dancing away, loving every bit of it just like they did with AtYPICAL tHEME  A definite re-hire!

is a Class Act that closed the event with a Class A Set.  I just felt bad that it was Sub-Dude Sundays with no cash coming in for anyone as a direct result of poor turn-out (as was expected).   As I told Tim, the next time he books a decent paying show he needs to call on Captain Rock and Hawthorne 1st and foremost.  They are both excellent Bands and deserve the best paying gigs possible.

In short, with one small exception that may be easily corrected, all the Bands above are definitely good investments to one degree or another.  Definitely deserve another opportunity.   With few exceptions they are all great people!

didn't miss a night either.  Owners Tom and Heather as well as their good friend Jessica and many others turned out in support of ALL the Local Bands and the event in general.

attended Sub-Dude Sunday as promised.  By the time the night was over it was more apparent than ever, the kick-off of the New NW Scene had already begun, we were just solidifying a Meeting of the Minds (still are).  Owner Chris Anderson will personally oversee the "LIVE" Recording of The Rock Hard New Year's Ball™, hence the Final Take of A Pair of Rock Hard Balls™.  He offers the absolute lowest rates for a Quality Live Recording Service I have ever seen so if you need some Live Recording done, it is worth your time to give him a call.

Now to the Surprise of the Event,

Lead Man Mike had them begging for more.  The sound was tight, unique, just like the others, but something about Chapter's End created a rush of Fans I hadn't seen in a while.  They didn't have time to Book as they were one of the TBA Bands, hence didn't have many of their own Fans there, yet, from their own Originals to their Covers of the Doors' L.A. Woman and Pink Floyd's The Wall, they earned a bunch of new Fans as they ROCKED!

Like the last TRRRU I did as I promised and invited some Industry Executives I thought... I know could make a difference in the Artists' lives.  Last year it was Ryan Northup/President of Connecticut Based Metal Mayhem Music & Costa-The Monster himself of Montreal, QE based Monster's World of Metal.  This year I invited Mr. Bruce Fife/President of AF of M Local 99 in Portland Oregon, Devin-Owner of PREPAID Friends and Chris Anderson/Owner of O IN EYE Recording.  Some were excused due to understanding sheer distance i.e. NORTHWEST ROYALE of Eugene who had to get home.  Some showed up to meet our true friends in the business i.e. Mind Spring and Mike of Chapter's End.

I'm looking for a sound, that HIT, as well as Bands that take care of business.  After hearing Chapter's End, seeing the crowd response I was glad Mike showed up.  After discussing things with him for a while I gave him the Prize.  Contingent Chapter's End signs off on the agreements as will be approved by The AF of M, within a reasonable amount of time, they have a place as the opening act of The Rock Hard New Year's Ball™ and shall be included in A Pair of Rock Hard Balls™.  Mike was smart enough to show up, knows more than ever I'm NOT out to slight anyone, was very privileged to sit in on some otherwise behind the scenes discussions and intelligent enough to seize the opportunities before him.

I just want to make The League of Rockers™ happen as well as finish A Pair of Rock Hard Balls™.  So it was determined that Portland Musicians.com, which is now a Legal Company, will continue to Book ICM but only at the rate of 1 Saturday Show per month for now and that I will use ICM and all of its equipment to Book and make my Final Take of A Pair of Rock Hard Balls™ as filmed and recorded throughout The Rock Hard New Year's Ball™.

Now we are working on getting the Bands on the same page, with the Program, as well as on Sponsorships and a full Line-Up of the absolute Best!  The Agreements will be posted once Approved by the AF of M (about a month or so) and postings will include Video Rights, Publishing Rights, Writer's Rights, as well as an AF of M Approved Performance Compensation & Royalty Escalation Schedules.

If I can secure enough Sponsorship in time I will immediately contact certain Bands that I've already discussed this with pursuant to Booking them for this event, if not we will look more locally.  Hopefully the money will be there to not only pay UNION SCALE as well as Travel, Food & Lodging expenses, but to host a serious Private Party after the Show!

We'll just have to wait and see!
